HomeThis home was originally built in the late 1700's and has been remodeled several times, the last time by the renowned Mexican artist, Juan Ibañez. Its construction is of stone, adobe and wood with copper accents. It takes advantage of the Mexican sun and its position in one of the most beautiful squares in Guanajuato, Plaza San Fernando. The house is a typical home from colonial times in the centro of Guanajuato. Like most homes in the downtown area, it's built vertically with three levels. The first level has the entrance with a narrow hall. On one side there're several majestic ionic and corinthian stone columns and on the other side a laundry room and two storage rooms. The first thing you see as you walk in the house is the a stone well with a beautiful sculpture on top. Legend has it that this well was connected to a passage way to the Alhondiga de Granaditas during the Wars of Independence in the 1800's. As you walk up the stairs you will be welcomed by lush pants hanging from the peristyle. In the first level you will find a tile kitchen, a spacious dinning room, an enormous living room with 6 French doors that open onto the fountain below in Plaza San Fernando. The living room has antique and new furniture as well as modern accessories. In this level there's also a bedroom and a full bathroom. A wooden spiral staircase will take you to the third level. Here you'll find the master bedroom, an insuite bathroom, a huge walk-in closet, a living area in the middle with a gorgeous view of the dome of the Church of San Roque and a beautiful rooftop full of plants, sculptures, reliefs on the walls and a gorgeous view of Plaza San Fernando, the Pipila, the Basilca de Guanajuato, the dome of Plaza San Roque and the University of Guanajuato. On the other side of the house there's another bedroom with a separate staircase. Since the house is in the heart of town, you can comfortably walk almost anywhere. It's a short pleasant walk to Plaza de la Paz & the Basilica, Jardín Union, Teatro Juarez, the University of Guanajuato, the Mercado Hidalgo, the Alhondiga and most museums, language schools, restaurants, cafes and bars. There're many banks, convenience stores in the area as well as a supermarket a few blocks away. You will not only enjoy the comfort, style and location of this house but also the historic and almost mythical aspects of this home.
